Security and Technology Ramblings…

It looks like more people are starting to use this as a court defense when they are gone after by the RIAA. If the network is wide open, it cannot be proven who was actually doing the downloading. Interesting defense, if you ask me. One that the laws arn’t ready to handle.

One Response to Leave your wireless network wide open?

  • It’s the Bart Simpson defense: “I didn’t do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can’t prove anything.”

If you’re dumb enough to leave an access point wide open, you deserve whatever you get. There’s no reason to at least have WEP turned on. Of course then you’ll have the crowd that screams “I tried to secure it, but WEP is all it would do and since WEP is so easily cracked…so somebody must have cracked it.”
