I never knew this, but you can send and receive SMS text messages to mobile phones using your AOL IM Chat client.
Add a new IM contact, but instead of putting their IM handle, just put in their phone number. For example, +17705551212.
They will receive via text message any thing you send via chat. When they reply, it will respond in your chat window.
Pretty cool, eh?
